The new campus opened with its first batch of 41 students, offering a progressive, inquiry-based international education. OWIS Tsukuba begins with Grades K-5 and will expand each year to become a full K-12 international school. The school is dedicated to fostering an inclusive, values-driven environment where every child is supported to realize their unique potential.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Mr. Atul Temurnikar, Founder & Chairman of GSG, and Mr. Sumit Mishra, Country Director for Japan & Korea, along with esteemed dignitaries including His Excellency Mr. Kazuhiko Ōigawa, Governor of Ibaraki Prefecture, and Mr. Tatsuo Igarashi, Mayor of Tsukuba City.

“OWIS is a school that differentiates itself with innovation, with creativity, with curiosity, with creation of all-round personalities,” said Mr Temurnikar. “We believe that this education model coupled with a lot of initiatives that the GSG brings to Tsukuba through its network of 64 campuses is going to make OWIS Tsukuba a very vibrant international school in the local community.”

Nestled in the foothills of Mt. Tsukuba, the campus offers a learning environment where international education meets a deep respect for nature. Designed to inspire curiosity, mindfulness, and environmental responsibility, OWIS Tsukuba emphasizes sustainability and outdoor exploration as integral parts of its curriculum. Students will benefit from immersive experiences that blend academics with a love for the natural world.

The collaboration with the Ibaraki Prefectural Government is in line with its shared vision with GSG of nurturing English proficiency and global competencies in young learners. GSG thanked Irabaki Governor Kazuhiko Ōigawa for this partnership and their continued encouragement.

With its opening, OWIS Tsukuba joins One World International School Osaka and Global Indian International School Tokyo as part of Global Schools Group’s growing presence in Japan, reaffirming its mission to deliver world-class education to families across the region.

Mr. Chris Larter, Head of School, OWIS Tsukuba said: “We are pleased to announce the official opening of OWIS Tsukuba. We look forward to welcoming many more families to our school and to our learning community. For those who are seeking international education, embark with OWIS on your journey for innovative education.”
