CUPERTINO, California / ConSynSer / – Apple has added Touch to the Mac for the first time with a redesigned MacBook Pro that also introduces a tandem OLED display called PROLED XDR. Available in 14-inch and 16-inch versions, the laptop runs on M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and offers up to 24 hours of battery life. Pre-orders opened on October 28, and the laptop will reach customers and stores from Friday, November 6. Apple described PROLED XDR as the world’s best laptop display.

The touch sensor is built into the display panel rather than layered on top, which Apple said reduces latency. Users can swipe to scroll, pinch to zoom, drag and drop slides and double-tap windows to fill the screen. Graphic designers can draw across the entire display, and developers can test how their iOS and iPadOS apps respond to touch. Existing keyboard shortcuts and trackpad gestures continue to work alongside Touch.

Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer, called the new MacBook Pro “a monumental step forward for the Mac.” He said the combination of Touch with M5 Pro and M5 Max creates a whole new way for professionals to interact with their content. The Dynamic Island, already familiar from iPhone, also comes to the Mac. It will host Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI.

2000 nits and Adobe RGB colour

The PROLED XDR display reaches up to 2000 nits of peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content. It offers a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and refresh rates ranging from 10Hz to 120Hz. The colour gamut covers P3 and Adobe RGB, with more than 80% of Rec. 2020. Apple said each panel is calibrated at the factory, making the laptop a portable reference display for photographers and colourists.

The screens are slightly larger, at 14.2 and 16.3 inches, thanks to slimmer borders. The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds and the 16-inch model 4 pounds, both lighter and thinner than before. An upgraded six-speaker system delivers 50% deeper bass. The laptops also include a 12MP Center Stage camera and studio-quality microphones.

    Pricing starts at $2,899

In the US, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch model starts at $3,399. Versions with M5 Max start at $4,499 for the 14-inch and $4,799 for the 16-inch. Customers can configure up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple first introduced its M5 Pro and M5 Max chips in March.

The new models run macOS 27 with Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features. Apple said the PROLED XDR display offers a consistent colour experience when used with the iPhone 18 Pro or Studio Display XDR. Apps including Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender and Microsoft Office will support Touch. Pre-orders are available in 30 countries and regions, including the US.
